Learn About Mary Riner And Dharma

Mary Riner

Brief into. on who you are and what you do:

I am a yogi householder with three kids. My teacher is Sri Dharma Mittra, a fully realized living master who has been teaching the eight limbs of yoga through his Dharma Yoga for more than 50 years in the heart of New York.

Please define further what you do:

In the last four years, I have reorganized my life around what matters most: my spiritual practice and my modern Brady Bunch family. I have to make enough money to support my kids who live in Washington, D.C. and I need flexibility to travel to Memphis, where my soulmate lives with his two girls. I also have to do what is in my heart work-wise so I write stories, connect people, and sell the schools & organizations that are changing the face of education in the U.S. & the world. My spiritual practice is infused in everything I do, from the sacred spaces I have created in D.C. and Memphis, to the food I cook, to my daily studies and practices of the yamas, niyamas, asana, pranayama and meditation. I have a blog about my spiritual journey at www.maryriner.com.

Why is it an important part of holistic living?

The goal of yoga is self-realization, to realize who we really are, that there is no you, no me, just we. We are all one and the same part of this whole infinite universe. Dharma says that “the purpose of life is to experience everything” because God’s love is unconditional. We are all souls in human bodies who are at different levels of experience. When we start to awaken to the divine mystery, we do the practices so that we can get closer to the source, to that portion of God that lives inside of us.
